Sei dove devi essere?
giovedì 7 novembre 2024
La verità ti fa male, lo so. But I won’t apologies for saying the truth. My truth.
I am Italian. I was born and raised in the pizza country, my heritage is Italian, my first language is Italian and so is my passport. Do I look Italian? Not sure about that anymore.
Yes, I lived aboard for the past 10 years and I probably lost or forgot some Italian habits (and words, I admit this). I am not all about fashion, makeup, I don’t wear Nike Air Force, I don’t care about Prada or Gucci bags, I don’t have a dog, I don’t eat pasta every day and my favourite food is curry. I don’t go to church, I don’t drive like an asshole and I don’t smoke 20 cigarettes per day. I don’t drink coffee, I dislike Nutella and Aperol Spritz is not my thing, but still! I am Italian. Maybe I’m just different or a weird, I get that, but I still consider myself Italian.
But you know what? After spending few months in Italy now, I think the place where you belong is not the place where you were born or where your heritage is from or whatever says on your passport. Because I recognise I have less and less to do with these people even if they’re my people!
I used to be an early bird and now that I’m back in Italy I actually enjoy my time in bed in the morning and no more alarms at 4.30am or body clock at 6am. I don’t go for long runs in the morning by the ocean and I enjoy naps. Specially after lunch. Lunch didn’t use to be a thing for me, I was more a dinner person due to my lifestyle. Now I’m back to have a proper lunch but I still don’t eat pasta every day and even if I love pasta, I’m still not a big fan.
I look at these people on the train with me, men, women, girls, boys, no matter, they’re all dressed up. All female passengers wear make up, have sunnies on (it’s raining btw), have expensive bags and have at least one Pandora on. Expensive shoes, plastic water bottle, a newspaper or a book here and there but mainly phones. They all talk lauder than you can imagine but they still need some privacy.
I’m wearing a pair of leggings from Kmart, no make up, no sunglasses, my bag is from SHEIN and I have a 700ml water bottle. I have a book that I’m actually reading. My headphones are with no cables (didn’t even know they were still a thing) and my music is not laud and so is my tone if I have to talk or pic up a call.
I have no much to do with these people. And I felt this way for the past months I’ve been spending here.
I forgot how good it was taking a bidet but I still don’t mind skipping that part and this doesn’t make me a dirty person, no shame in saying what I’m saying. I shower every day, I have forgotten about “lavarsi a pezzi” and I don’t use an hairdryer after washing my hair. And believe it or not, this doesn’t give me the cold and (surprise!) I don’t suffer from “cervicale”.
The train is the best place, I guess, to make all these observation. No one has a case, all handling phones with no cases and not even a screen protector, I’m shook.
What’s most important and frustrating is their water bottle: they all have a plastic water bottle and have no clue, I bet, that water bottles that you can refill are a thing.
None of these traveller have a keep cup, they don’t even have a take away drink like tea or coffees. This train is something else. I feel more like I’m the tourist in my own country and I am seeing this for the first time!
I am a mix of feelings and emotions and I had the need of writing this down and sharing it because I don’t want to forget this and because I am sure I’m not the only one. It can’t be. But even if I am the only one noticing this, feeling weird and not feeling in the right place like I thought I’d feel, it’s ok, I still wanted to share my story. My story of the day, I guess.
The thing that surprised me most, in this journey with trains in Italy, is that I had all scheduled. I had my timer on to have a proper meal with no rush, I had another timer to remind me to hurry up and don’t be late for catching my connection and my friend, who was with me and he’s Italian who lived in Italy is entire life, was so calm, so chill, enjoyed his beer and had no rush at all. Not even for one second. Not even considering the fact he didn’t even know which train I was catching and from which platform!
I thought it was because he’s from Rome and he knew the train station so well that he had all timing calculated in his mind. Nope. Not even close! He’s used to trains deleted or cancelled and he was just cool with it, cool like a cucumber.
In fact, as soon as we reached the platforms, on the board, my train was deleted. 5 minutes at first. Then 10. Then 2 minutes before it was too late, platform got announced. So I had to run to the platform and caught the train literally just before they closed the door. Train was delayed 10min but still closed the door after 5min delay and that’s it. And while on the train, when I thought I was only 10min late for the weeding, they announced the train would have taken a conventional road so a delay of 30min was announced. I was shocked and kind of annoyed, but everyone else was absolutely fine, they are so used to this that it was so normal for them! Like, seriously?!? Why is no one minding this? Don’t they have plans? Are they not going to complain? Am I the only one on heart here who’s pissed?
This train, this journey, is very, extremely important to me, because it made me realise that as much as I’d love to enjoy and stay in my own country, I don’t feel this is gonna work out for me. I am struggling to adapt and I am scared that I won’t fit with these people, these habits, this fucking trains constantly late!
I am seriously considering the idea that the country I left 10 years ago it’s not the country where I belong and as much as I’d love the idea of living my happy life close to my people, enjoying the best food in the word and drinking the best wine, this is not my place. And there’s nothing wrong with it, I just need to accept that the world, the travelling, the people I met, the experience I had and the country I lived in, changed me so much that I don’t fit with a country that never changed, never improved and it doesn’t look like it will.
I used to say that Italians in Italy deserve the country they’re in. Never been more proud of this thought and I’m sorry for hurting some people feelings, but, sadly, this is the “nuda e cruda verità” and I hope you can understand I’m not trying to be rude or offend anyone, I’m just saying what I think. And if it hurts, well… La verità fa male.

Things I’d like to say.
Honestly? It’s been a journey.
I completely forgot about this blog. I was so focused in living my best life and keeping distance from social media e these kind of platforms, spaces and people that I ignored the fact that I had a blog. And I was able to communicate to you what I was going through. But I didn’t. I just lived my best life.
And now I’m here again as I’d like to share more. I missed that contact with strangers who wanted to know me more or just curious about people’s life they won’t know about or they won’t even care that much.
I recently started a new life back in Europe. Well, let me be more specific: I just started a new chapter of my beautiful life.
Have no idea this time where I’d like to go or be, have zero projects or travels in mind and I am not looking for anything in particular to be completely honest with you. I am just living, again, my best life! Just here to collect more memories, enjoy my freedom and reconnect with my loved ones.
I travelled around the SEA (spiego: South East Asia) in 2019 as mentioned in a previous post that, let me just say, I just seen and got me very emotional. I was such a little girl! First time travelling solo, so proud of the new me and so ready for the best journey I actually had so far. Not gonna lie, reading this, after 5yrs, has been intense. Powerful. And I loved it. Like the new me is reading and reconnecting with the younger me. Aww! Sweet! But let’s go back to what I was saying a second ago.
Backpacked in Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia I ended up in Perth, Western Australia, back in October 2019. Started a new life, got a place where to stay, a job and met few people. One of them offered me to join them for the farm jobs. Keen to extend my visa and try new things, I accepted. And thank the lord I did! Few months after we were, including you hey, all in the middle of a pandemic and I was blessed enough to be in the most isolated place in the world. No idea of any of the struggles you guys went through. No lockdowns, happy days, parties, bbq and a lot of fun. I had the best life I could ever imagine.
Kept having the best life for few years and actually lived in Australia for almost 5 years when, a couple of months ago, I decided was my time to move back to Europe and close this chapter with the kangaroos for good. No regret, no hard feelings just a little bit of pain for not being able to see things through better earlier but still proud of me and my journey. And my last decision of leaving the country. So, long story short, I’m back!
I’m back in Europe, I’m currently in Italy and I’m seriously considering to keep this blog, write more, share more and why not? Reopen my YouTube channel and reconnect with more people and share my life, my thoughts and my feelings as a traveller. As a solo female traveller.
I guess the time where everyone wanted to be everywhere is over. I hope we’re all sick of social media, influencers and shit like that so I hope I won’t feel the pressure of a sponsor again, the need of strangers to steal my thoughts and the obsession of some creepy men offering me pain and misery. I hope that if I make the decision of going back to YouTube, I won’t be viral again, people will leave me the fuck alone and I’d rather be alone and sharing my thoughts with a small group of strangers than having a lot of strangers obsessed with me and my life.
Saying that, I don’t mean that all people on social media are those people I described and I still have hope for the community, but please keep in mind that the web is a very tricky place and it’s very powerful and sometimes power doesn’t align with values or freedom. At least not with my values and my concept of freedom.
Have you all the best Sunday of your life and stay tuned for more .. things I’d like to say!

A volte ritorno.
sabato 24 agosto 2019
Abbi coraggio, E fede.
Eppure, già so che sarà incantevole. Non so.

No. Non parliamo di quei libri.
Credo. Ma te lo chiedi. Comunque.

Last chapter

What do we own?
The only thing we own in this life is time. So please, do not waste it.
Ecco perchè ringrazio sempre chi legge il mio blog e chi guarda i miei video o chi mi scrive in privato.
Come diceva Il Piccolo Principe?
I soldi vanno e vengono. It's the only thing you own.

Self note #1
You may speak English as well and you're able to read all of this - may with a really strong Italian accent, I got you - but that's not the point.
This is a test for me, a self note I'd say. It's all about me. It's always about me. You.
People think we do stuff, we say things, we think about or for them, but in the end of the day, do we? Do you? Do I?
I know for sure I don't dress up or use any make up for someone else. I know for sure I never care about what other people may think about me. I should. Should I? Should I be worried about what you think about me? Shall I really pay attention about your silly comments about me and the way I dress or the way I wear things or .. Really?
I don't. I can't. A life spent thinking about what other people think about us is not a life! If my life, my decisions are made because of others, well, what kind of life am I living? Who's living my life? This life belongs to me and I wanna live my life the way I want to, the way that makes me happy, the way that makes me feel me, alive, free.
Can we actually be free? Can we be so close to freedom to think we are actually free? Do we really actually want to be free? Do you? Do I?
I mean, think about that. Pretend for a day you can be free. What are you thinking about? Are you thinking about wake up at any time without an alarm? Are you thinking about stay in bed all day? Are you thinking about moving to another country? Are you thinking about do not go to work or go to work and say to your boss he's shit and makes you feel shit and you don't deserve it? What would you do to feel free? What could make you feel free? What are you thinking about if you can figure yourself free? Like properly free?
People always talk about freedom and the fact we're not free and this system makes us not free and bla bla bla and .., STOP!
We are free. You are free to do not set up an alarm. You are free to spend a whole day in bed. You are free, we all are. We just don't want to be. If you really wanted to be free, you were. You just don't want to. I am sure about it. Because sure thing is that we all are free, someone less than others but that's not your case. How do I know that? You are reading this. If you were not free, like some people may are, you were not able to read all of this. Or to copy and past and translate all of this and still being able to read all of this.
What people like you usually forget, is that we are free. Free to be yourself, free to wear what the fuck you want to. Free to love who you really want to love. Free to go wherever you want to be. We just don't really believe in us so strongly like we should. That's the problem, I guess. And I can't tell you what to do about it coz I'm not that one. And coz no one can actually tell you what makes you free or can make you a self lover! Because it took me nearly 29 years to understand I wanted to be free, to realise I was born free and I meant to stay free for the rest of the days I still have to live in this life. And I can't tell in words how hard the process to come back to me has been. I can't even tell myself if I'm actually back to me, but I'm working on it. I'm working on that little silly girl who believes in herself and her sweet dreams and she knows she can make her dreams her reality and no one can stop her.
No one can stop you. Us. There's no system so strong to manipulate the true you and let that part of you run away from who you are. But yes, this system can manipulate the way you think you are to run away from the real you. It's complicated and I'm not expecting you to learn from this diary anything and I'm not expecting you to understand what I am writing and what I mean. Because, I said that at the beginning, this is not for you. This is a self note. And that's all it meant to be.
